South African Minister of Health, Dr. Joe Phaahla, has confirmed that the government is working on a digital platform that will be able to produce digital vaccination certificates for eligible South Africans.
This mobile application will allow South Africans to keep their vaccination certificate on their smart cellular device. The travel, tourism, and general hospitality industry welcome this development as it will streamline the check-in process at various service providers and prevent frustration around lost/damaged physical certificates.
The Federated Hospitality Association of South Africa’s chairperson, Rosemary Anderson, has expressed that she feels this application will also increase international tourists’ trust and confidence in visiting South Africa, as it presents a standardised process and protocol.
