Recent travellers have been caught off-guard and returned to OR Tambo airport after their travels to find that they have racked up unexpectedly high-priced parking tickets – some as much as R2 000 for one night!

The OR Tambo International Airport management team has changed the airport’s parking set-up to accommodate additional parking products, as explained by Samukelo Khambule, the airport’s spokesperson.

Parking Level 2 of Parkade 2 South (closest to the domestic terminal) has been changed to a pick-up and drop-off zone. This area allows for 30 minutes free from entry to exit. Parking here between 31 min and 60 min will cost R30. Thereafter you will be billed R60 an hour.

Level 3 and 4 of the Parkade South are for drop-offs and standard parking. This is for medium, long-term and overnight parking.

Rates are as follows:

Thereafter, an additional R95 is charged per 12 hours parked.

Parkade 2 North is for long-term parking as well as the airport’s pre-booked parking.

The pre-booked parking discounts down to R65 per 24hours after a 3 day stay. The is also a 50% discount to travellers that book the pre-booked parking 5 or more days in advance.

The open-air Piazza parking area is to be used by all taxis, e-hailing services and public transport services, as they will not be permitted access to Level 2 of the Parkade 2 South.

Make sure to park in the correct designated area for your desired duration to prevent any unwanted, and expensive, parking tickets.
