The Tourism Monitors Programme, established on 15 November by The Department of Tourism and the Airports Company South Africa, has been established to boost safety and security levels of the key airports in South Africa.

A group of over 120 youths have been trained and graduated from the Department’s Tourism Monitors Programme to serve at OR Tambo and Cape Town International Airports to raise tourism awareness, patrol, report crime and support any tourists in distress.

Chief Director of Visitor Services at the Department of Tourism, Lizzy Mathopha says “The rigorous training programme ensures their proficiency as tourist guides and provides critical occupational health and safety skills”.
