Mauritian authorities have announced that they will be welcoming vaccinated South African travellers to the island as of 01 October 2021.
This reopening of borders signifies the kick-off of Phase 2 of Mauritius’ reopening strategy. Phase 1 allowed vaccinated visitors to visit the island for a ‘resort bubble’ vacation that lasts 14 days and restricts visitors to the resorts’ facilities, preventing them from visiting the rest of the island.
Phase 2, initiating on 01 October 2021, allows vaccinated travellers to visit resorts without restrictions and to enter the island, moving around freely.
It is important to note that a negative PCR test is still required, and Mauritius authorities reserve the power to adjust these regulations should there be a sudden increase in local cases, or if they are unsatisfied with the vaccination progress of South Africans.
