On 15 October 2020, on  ‘International Day of Rural Women’ we celebrate the strength and selflessness of rural women in our own country and across the globe; the heroines who are dedicated to developing their communities and those who play an essential role in addressing poverty and providing food security.

We have no doubt that every rural community in South Africa is filled with formidable women who silently do their bit when it comes to crop production, caring for livestock and the provision of food, water and fuel for their families.  Our rural women also care not only for their own children but often also for those of relatives, the elderly and sick. For these everyday acts of ‘ubuntu’, we salute and celebrate them.
