The IATA Travel Pass, a mobile app available on smartphones, allows travellers to securely keep their Covid-19 test results on the app in order to show airlines and authorities – to meet the different entry requirements for each country.

The app also allows travellers to check up on the latest COVID-19-related entry requirements for different countries/destinations.

Air France has started to trial this pass on their flights from New York JFK and Barcelona Airport to Paris-Charles de Gaulle. IATA hopes that the pass will assist in streamlining the checking of COVID-19 test results to speed up processes at check-in points.  This will greatly benefit the flow of passengers once returns to ‘normal’.

Alain-Hervé Bernard, COO of Air France, said: “We are continuously calling for worldwide coordinated and harmonised health standards and standardised travel documents to facilitate deployment of digital tools and provide our customers with a smooth and safe customer journey. The full integration of a digital solution in the passenger journey is a key condition for the resumption of international travel.”

The user’s health details remain on the app, are not transmitted nor are they centrally stored – which gives the user full control over their personal details and medical results, but does require users to make use of partner laboratories that have a partnership/agreement with IATA.
