British Airways Comair will add more flight frequencies on its route network commencing mid- September 2019. The flights are available to book now. In total, BA will operate 34 additional flights a week on routes serviced from Johannesburg, which includes Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth as well as between Cape Town and Durban. British Airways says the additional frequency will bring more choice for tourists and business travellers. Apart from the upped frequency on these selected routes, British Airways will continue to fly to their regional destinations including Harare, Livingstone, Victoria Falls, Windhoek and Mauritius. British Airways Executive Club members travelling within Southern Africa on British Airways (operated by Comair) can earn Avios and Tier points. Depending on a member’s Executive Club status, benefits include entry into SLOW lounges, fast-track check-in, free seat selection and meal preferences.

Proflight Zambia has announced plans for a new scheduled service between Ndola and Johannesburg in a move that will boost trade and investment between the two cities. The new route, which is expected to take-off on 2 September 2019, will link the Copperbelt mining and industry hub with South Africa’s main business centre with three-times-a-week service on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. P0040 will depart from Ndola’s Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport at 8:05am and arrive at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport at 10:35am. The return flight will depart from Johannesburg at 11:40am and arrive back in Ndola at 14:10pm. Mango Airlines has introduced a loyalty programme that rewards passengers every time they fly with them. Acting CEO Marelize Labuschagne says GO Rewards™ is a rewards programme with a difference, “Where most reward programmes are designed to motivate consumers to be brand loyal over an extended period of time, GO Rewards offers instant rewards. For every flight you book, you are entitled to three rewards up to the value of R2000. If you book a return flight you get double the rewards.” The rewards are based on experiences, and are divided into six categories including entertainment, days out, dining, fashion, pamper options and accommodation. Labuschagne said: “All our passengers paying for tickets as of 15 July will be rewarded with personalised options such as a restaurant or spa voucher, tickets to local sports games and shows, movies, adventures and experiences for the whole family.”
People arriving in the UAE can claim a free sim card loaded with 20GB data and international calling minutes. The sim can be recharged with a credit card or at any point of sale, just like all other sims bought across the Emirates. Visitors will receive the free sim card at immigration, and it will be activated automatically and registered in the name of the traveller. The sim card is valid for one month and will be automatically renewed if the traveller extends their visa. The initiative is the first of its kind in the world. To activate the complimentary SIM, the traveller needs to insert the Sim card in their phone, dial *122# and follow the on-screen instructions.
